Punica granatum development.

Here is another fruit that I realy appreciate.

The Romã, as it is called in Portugal is a fruit rich in antioxidant compounds and poor in fatty acids and carbohydrates. Here are some pictures of the development of this fruit.

Lily. A simple and beautifull flower.

Commonly known as coroas (crown in portuguese) and lírios (lily), the plant Lilium longiflorum is a comon garden plant. It is a perennial plant, with the geophyte life-form (Raunkiær), in which, during the less favorable season, the aerial part is lost.
I've got some exemplars of this plant in my garden. From all the flowers I know, this one has an awesome visual effect and that's why I've placed some photos here.

How does the strawberry develops?

Here is a picture sequence of how does a strawberry develops from it's flower stage to it's "fruit" stage.
That's right, quotation marks. Strawberries are not fruits. The real fruits are the tiny little seeds arroud it, the achenes, a dry fruit. The strawberry (red part) grows from the receptacle expansion, and can be promoted by some plant hormones like giberelic acid (produced by the achenes). Here are some pics that I took and found interesting.

How to build a little greenhouse.

If you're looking for any tip to build a little greenhouse, you've came to the right place.
Yesterday I was wondering if the tobacco plants would not grow faster in a more appropriate clime, and so, I decided to construct my own little greenhouse.
To do this, I went to Bricomarché, and I bought some "sticks" with 1.5x1.5cm (aprox. 0.06x0.06 inches) and cut them in 40cm long bars (1.58 inches), and some other wooden sticks with 3x1.5cm (0.12x0.06 inches) and cuted them in 60cm long bars (2.36 inches), to do the second picture structure.
Then, to do the door I took 2 old hinges that I had, and placed them in previously marked places with screws. Them made the door with the same stick measures (40cm x 60cm), as in the third pic.
At the end I took some flat pushpins and atached the plastic to the structure, and the end result is on fourth pic.
Note: To unite the sticks I used little nails and some wood glue to give strenght to the greenhouse.
Any doubt or more specific aspect, do not hesitate in contact me.

The seeds keep growing.

This is a normal update destined to someone that is raising tobacco plants and want to compare.
As it was in the begining the egipcian variant is the one with the less germination rate (until now).
In the other hand, the Burley, Virginia gold and the Oriental are growing pretty well.
These are some fotos to you compare and comprove.

Tobaco seeds (Nicotiana tabacum) plantation.

In the other day I was thinking in planting a completely strange specie to me.
I've never seen any kind of tobacco plant, so I decided to plant it. I gotten some seeds and placed them in boxes, as the photography shows, 4 seeds per box.
The tobacco likes water, hot temperatures and light. The seeds need many light to germinate, so I placed them indoor with temperatures around 33ºC, close to a window. After 7/8 days these are the results that I've got. From all varieties that I planted, the egipcian tobacco is the one with less rate of germination, although it seems that it takes more time to germinate than others varieties (maybe 10-15 days).
Anyway, I'll keep this experience in touch.
In few time I'll place here another germination experience.
Thanks for reading.
